Clarence Clemons Dies at Age 69
Big Man, the saxophonist of the E Street Band, died on June 18th.
Clemons suffered a massive stroke on June 12th. He initially underwent two brain surgeries, which seemed promising earlier in the week. The surgeries unfortunately did not help. Clarence was 69.
The Big Man will forever be remembered for his legendary solos on such rock classics as “Born To Run,” “Thunder Road,” “Jungleland,” and “Dancing In The Dark.”
The only member of the E Street Band pictured in Born to Run, Clemons proved to be Springsteen’s right hand man. Springsteen wrote in a 2009 Clemons memoir Big Man: Real Life and Tall Tales, “The story I have told throughout my work life I could not have told as well without Clarence.”
Clemons’ final stage performance was on the season finale of American Idol, where he performed “Edge of Glory” with Lady Gaga.
