Forget-Me-Not: Jamiroquai-”Virtual Insanity”
Today’s Forget-Me-Not is a certain childhood favorite. Coming all the way at you from 1997 (U.S. release date) is Jamiroquai‘s “Virtual Insanity.” This British Acid Rock jam is off the band’s third studio album entitled Traveling Without Moving.
The album’s title can be interpreted to some degree in the music video for this song. You find Jamiroquai’s frontman, Jay Kay, moving about a very tricky room. Some things in the room appear to be moving, but with handy camera work and a little movie magic the things in the room are actually stationary, or so they say. This of course vise versa. There are things moving that appear to be standing still. An overall mindtug.
My own adaptation of this song lingers around the idea that their is too much of a virtual component to our society and not enough confrontation and interaction among actual people. Could he have been predicting the future? I am guilty of it, you are guilty of it, grandma is guilty of it…. even Jesus has a Twitter account. Perhaps this is not at all what the band intended, but if you listen closely to the lyrics you will definitely be able to find why I have drawn such a conclusion.
Enjoy.
