Today’s Forget-Me-Not is brought to you by country western greats, John Prine and Iris DeMent. Their tune “In Spite of Ourselves” is a heartfelt love story that represents the hearts of real America.

Billy Bob Thornton actually approached Prine about writing a love song for a movie he was involved with (Prine explains in video) and this was the end result. In this live performance, Live @ West 54, the traditional and sweet nectar of “back to the basics” country tunes is displayed in full.

Nothing instrumentally impressive and nothing vocally impressive, but the lyrics, story, and representation give this a spot on the Forget-Me-Not shelves.
