Effin rock GOD Chris Cornell(for those of you who have been seriously under a damn rock since 1990, Chris Cornell is frontman and lead guitarist for Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog)wrote “Hunger Strike” and later asked Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder to record/perform it with him and the band because he could not nail the vocal pitches he intended.  By The way, many rock musicians could quickly solve their vocal hiccups if they too would just call on The Vedder.

A song both intended literally and politically, “Hunger Strike” has a very heavy socialist driven theme with Robin Hood like intentions. This notion that one must steal bread to feed the poor and fight along side as individuals for their right to receive one of life’s most basic requirements.

Record execs quickly realized that what they had was basically a Superband, fusing Soundgarden and Pearl Jam together to create this now artifact called Temple of the Dog. The song was released as a single in 1991 and made it to No. 4 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts and No. 7 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts.

Needless to say, this timeless song will be played at high volumes for eternity and will always be reminisced over 16 oz Pabst Blue Ribbons and Camel Lights.
