Forget-Me-Not: Van Morrison-”Tupelo Honey”
Van the man (Van Morrison) escorts us through today’s Forget-Me-Not with the beauty of “Tupelo Honey.” This title track was released in 1971 and is some of the best songwriting this robust irishman ever conceived.
“Tupelo Honey” is all about the beauty of living with love. Referencing the flower native to the southeast, the tupelo works as the songs vessel. There are hints of Elvis Presley as you listen–who ironically is from Tupelo, Mississippi. The song is the perfect 4/4 pairing with “Crazy Love” off his previous–and wildly successful– album, Moondance.
The great Bob Dylan was once quoted about “Tupelo Honey,” saying that “‘Tupelo Honey’ has always existed and that Morrison was merely the vessel and the earthly vehicle for it”.
Many of you may or may not have heard this, but give it a listen from beginning to end. Perfect to crank on while having a cold one, or a glass of vino, right around that 6 pm hour.
