John Mayer Releases Martin Guitar; Says New Album Will Have a Cowboy Under the Stars Feel

Ranger Smith | Sound Check Music BlogDressed as Ranger Smith from Yogi Bear, John Mayer released his John Mayer Special Martin guitar at the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) show and discussed his newfound interest in cowboys.

Since he was diagnosed with vocal problems in September, causing him to cancel tour dates and delay his latest album, Born and Raised, John Mayer has stepped out of  the spotlight.  However, on January 18th at the NAMM show in Arkansas, Mayer released his special edition Martin guitar, the 00-45SC John Mayer Edition.

If you’re thinking about picking one up, think again.  Only 25 were made and Mayer purchased two – “one to play and one to store.”  The remaining 23 will be sold exclusively to merchants at a whopping $14,000 per guitar.  Cheap, eh?

When presenting the guitar, Mayer discussed how it influenced his new record, which will contain “organic, cowboy sounds” as if he was playing “under the stars.”

Then, Mayer teased the press with some tunage from the new record.  Watch Mayer discuss the guitar and play a diddy from his new record, Born and Raised below.
