Monday Blues: Allman Brothers with Buddy Guy – “The Sky is Crying”
Today’s Monday Blues is nothing short of legendary, as the Allman Brothers and Buddy Guy tackle a blues staple.
“The Sky is Crying” was written in 1959 by American blues legend Elmore James. It was recorded as an impromptu song inspired by a Chicago downpour during the recording session.
Needless to say, “The Sky is Crying” has become a, if not the, blues standard. Interpreted by such legends as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, “The Sky is Crying” should cure your Monday Blues.
Interesting side note: The Allman Brothers played the song at Duane Allman’s funeral in 1971.
