Monday Blues: James Brown-”Santa Claus, Go Straight To The Ghetto”
No one, I mean no one, can tell it like it is any better than The Godfather of Soul, James Brown. Being a native of Augusta, Ga., I know from personal experience that this man’s legacy bleeds from every crosswalk and high rise in town and I am here to tell you that Mr. Brown spoke the truth and nothing but the truth with God as his witness.
His Christmas cheer has always been a bit foggy, but in the song titled “Santa Claus, Go Straight To The Ghetto,” Brown pleads his case as to why Jolly St. Nick should visit “the other side of the tracks,” so to speak, this Christmas.
As a testimony of Brown’s goodwill, let me provide you with an example.
There is a local event every year called James Brown’s Turkey Giveaway where people in my community, and of course Mr. Brown when he was still alive, give out turkeys each year at Thanksgiving to those less fortunate. An exemplary man to say the least.
He might not have always gotten things right, but his “soul” always intended good. Enjoy this Monday Blues and even for those of us that are broke, have a little Christmas cheer.
