Monday Blues: Robert Johnson-”Sweet Home Chicago”
Today’s Monday Blues comes from a blues music mastermind–Robert Johnson. His song entitled “Sweet Home Chicago” has probably been heard by most; however, it has probably come packaged with a little more production from the likes of The Blues Brothers, Eric Clapton, and Fleetwood Mac.
The original track has all of the elements that make a truly magnificent blues tune. The song is a traditional 12-bar blues standard and is voiced as a true anthem for the city of Chicago.
Now, there have been debates centered around whether or not Chicago (outside of title and chorus) is truly as significant to this song as one would think. Well, until someone makes it clear that “the windy city’ is not the focal point of this tune, we stand strong.
Regardless of who it is about or where it longs to go, this song is a nice addition to our Monday Blues collection.
We hope you enjoy.
