Music On The Mountaintop [Event Preview]
Just days away is the Appalachian celebration that is Music On The Mountaintop. This 2-day bluegrass fiesta is to be held at the pristine Grandfather Mountain Campground located in Boone, NC, on August 26-27.
Taking care of its own seems to be the fuel that drives this annual event. The festival will give a percentage of its proceeds to two Boone based non-profits, Appalachian Voices and The Mountain Alliance.
Appalachian Voices is a conservation based organization who’s focal point is the central and southern Appalachian region. Their mission is to protect this area’s land, air and water, while maintaining a core vision to progressively improve the health of these breathtaking mountains.
This organization has received multiple accolades for their selfless work. They have been listed as E! Environmental Magazine’s top 5 favorite ways to become environmentally active and have been recognized as a Google Earth Hero for their work on iLoveMountains.org, a website dedicated to ending mountaintop removal coal mining.
Their sister organization, The Mountain Alliance, serves the community in a different, yet equally valuable, way. Their mission is to provide Watauga County high school aged youth with various opportunities to explore and develop their leadership potential through experiential learning.
These two organizations lay the foundation for what is to be an absolutely epic time.
Now that we know a little bit about this festivals way of giving back, let’s talk music.
This year’s event is almost too good. Top-Shelf grass (the music :p ) coming at you from every direction. The lineup (in no particular order) is as follows:
