Of Montreal and Kishi Bashi Hit Ga Theatre Friday, February 17

Of Montreal Georgia Theatre | Sound Check Music BlogOf Montreal will be kicking off a tour in support of their new album “Paralytic Stalks” at the Georgia Theatre Friday, February, 17th. This will be their second time at the newly renovated Georgia Theatre, which is the best venue around for showcasing the theatrical and visual aspects of their show.

More on that later.

For those of you planning on going, you should plan on getting there in time to see Kishi Bashi (9 pm). Along with the beautiful strings he contributes to Of Montreal, he writes and performs as a solo artist.

Kishi Bashi

I had the good sense to stick around after the last Of Montreal show and watch Kishi Bashi’s surprise show on the roof. There is no describing how blown-away I was by the performance, the venue, and the energy. The rooftop show was the highlight of that night, and I’ve been hooked ever since. It is amazing the range of sounds that can come from voice, violin, and a loopstation. He creates dense and complex layers, but he knows when and where to deploy those sounds. Oftentimes solo performers who use loops in live performances end up with a gumbo of sounds. Kishi Bashi uses loops for the forces of excellent.

Before joining forces with Of Montreal, Kish Bashi was a founding member of Jupiter One and has toured with Regina Spektor. His first full length album as a solo artist, 151a (ichgoichi-a), is due to be released April 10. Thanks Kickstarter, but I wish the release date wasn’t so far away.

This is a track from Kishi Bashi’s first full length record 151a “It All Began With a Burst
